Start with access, not just the bulb count
A short porch run that can be reached safely is a different project from a steep two-story gable. Be realistic about where you can work comfortably and whether weather, ground conditions or nearby power lines make the plan inappropriate. A good-looking display does not require decorating every edge.
If the plan depends on roof walking, an improvised ladder setup or reaching beyond a safe working position, change the scope or ask a professional to assess it. Photographs from the ground are enough to begin the estimate conversation.
Compare the whole season
DIY means choosing products, checking condition, planning power and attachments, hanging the lights, dealing with failures and taking everything down. It also means keeping the lights somewhere between seasons. If those are activities you enjoy and can do safely, that matters to your decision.
Our service includes installation, takedown and storage. We supply and own the lights and include a timer. We guarantee a fix within 48 hours for our lights during the season, weather permitting. Those ongoing responsibilities are part of the service you are comparing.
What does the hired option cost?
Our first-installation price is $6.50–$14/ft depending on when you pay the 50% deposit in 2026. For 150 feet, that is $975, $1,200, $1,650 or $2,100 at the four rates. Installation, takedown and storage are included, with sales tax added where applicable.
Reinstallation of 150 feet of our stored lights is $675 at $4.50/ft. These are examples for a chosen length, not a claim about what your home measures. A written quote confirms the actual scope before you book.
What should I ask an installer?
Ask who supplies and owns the lights, how they attach, what the timer arrangement is, how repairs are requested and whether removal and storage are included. Read the deposit and timing terms in the written quote. Compare the same scope across companies.
You can verify our WA contractor registration BTNHOHL796B9 and OR CCB 261227 using the state links on this site. We are insured. We are not electricians; a licensed electrician is arranged if an outlet or wiring work is needed.
A smaller plan is still a plan
You do not have to choose between no lights and a complete roofline. Tell us if your priority is a front eave or porch and request a quote for that scope. There is no minimum job. The free measure gives you an actual number to compare with doing the work yourself.
If you decide seasonal installation is right for you, the 50% deposit locks the rate. If you prefer permanent lights that stay up all year, explore our sister brand, Permanent Lights NW, and compare that separate service before deciding.
Compare responsibilities as well as prices
Use a small checklist before you decide. Who chooses and supplies the strands? Who makes sure the clips suit the edges? Who arranges power and a timer? Who handles a problem after the first night? Who returns to take the lights down, and where will they be stored afterward?
With a DIY display, those responsibilities stay with you. With a quoted seasonal service, look for explicit answers in the scope. Our price includes installation, takedown and storage, and our seasonal guarantee applies to the lights we supply, weather permitting. A separate electrical job still needs a licensed electrician.
The free estimate is an opportunity to understand the service, not a commitment to buy it. Share the roof edges you care about and ask about the actual plan for access and timing. Then compare the written price with the work you would choose to handle yourself, including the January visit back to the same edges.
